Reading A440 is an exciting mixed voice choir of around 40 singers based in Berkshire. It is dedicated to combining musical excellence with a strong belief in building community partnerships through music.
We perform regular concerts through the year, both on our own and in collaboration with other artists, including other choirs, soloists and dancers.
The choir’s repertoire focuses on a wide range of sacred and secular music and reflects classic and contemporary genres across the centuries. Audiences are treated to a varied feast of choral delights, both acapella and accompanied. We aim to appeal to all, whether you have a musical background or just love to come and hear the power and beauty of collective music making. Our performances take place in churches, theatres and other civic venues.
Members share a love of singing and an enthusiasm for reaching the highest possible standard in choral performance. We sing much of our music from memory, believing that this gives us a greater connection with our audience and results in performances that are much more than the sum of the parts.
Our current Musical Director, Lucy Joy Morris, is a vibrant young conductor, with endless energy and enthusiasm for choral mastery. Lucy joined us in 2016 and quickly established her passion and drive for outstanding achievement. Her vocal leadership has helped the choir focus on strong technique and musicality with enjoyment at the heart, bringing fun and commitment to all that we do.
The choir has had success at a number of choral festivals and competitions. In May 2018 we won two trophies at the Cheltenham Music Festival (‘Choirs – Any Combination of Voices’ and ‘Mixed Voice Choirs’). We received a distinction at Cheltenham Music Festival in 2016, and were placed third in the prestigious North Wales Choral Festival in Llandudno Oct 2014. We were also winner of the Mayor of Reading’s Choral Festival at the Hexagon in April 2014.
In addition, Reading A440 has helped raise funds for local good causes. Most recently, our shared Reading Minster Carol Concert with Occasions Singers and Reading Male Voice Choir, raised in excess of £2200 for the Minster’s Sanctuary charity!
